The last 9 km
The last 9 km to the Shona Langa gate is gravel. A normal car manages it fine, and you don't need a 4x4. It's slower when the road hasn't been scraped in a while, so take it easy and enjoy the view.

Stocking up on the way
- From Pretoria (N1): Bela-Bela is your last good stop for groceries, about an hour and twenty minutes from the estate.
- From Johannesburg (N14): Thabazimbi has the widest range of shops, about an hour and forty-five minutes from the estate.
- Firewood: we leave a supply out, but it's never enough. Roadside sellers on the way have plenty.

When to arrive
Check-in is from 2:00 PM, and check-out is by 10:00 AM. Aim to reach the gate before dark: the gravel is easier in daylight, and your first evening at the boma is worth protecting.
