Famous for its natural hot springs. A great day trip option — especially in winter. Worth the drive for a relaxing afternoon.

UNESCO-listed biosphere reserve offering incredible scenic drives, hiking, and birding through dramatic mountain and bushveld terrain. The Marakele side is the nearest way in.

Common questions
Do guests need to leave the lodge to enjoy their stay?
Not at all. Most guests barely leave the property. The wood-fired hot tub, private boma, game viewer drives on the estate, and the bush surroundings themselves usually fill the time. Nearby attractions are an option, not a requirement.
Can guests drive themselves around Shona Langa Nature Estate?
Yes. The included game viewer is available throughout the stay for self-guided drives on the estate roads. The estate is approximately 2,000 hectares, with no Big Five and no predators, so nothing will hunt you. It's still the bushveld, with snakes and spiders (not many snakes), so the one rule is: if you see a snake, turn around and walk away, and never touch it.
What is the closest town for supplies?
Bela-Bela is the nearer town, about 1 h 20 away, with shops, fuel and a pharmacy. Thabazimbi has a wider range of shops and is about 1 h 45 away.
